What is ART or Active release techniques?
Active Release Techniques is a patented technique that is used by Chiropractors as well other health professionals which involves both soft tissue massage and muscle lengthening to help break down scar tissue and remove adhesions caused by injury or repetitive strain.
Scar tissue can build up in muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and even nerves which reduces joint movement and can entrap peripheral nerves which can cause pain, burning, numbness and pins & needles.
Active Release Techniques allows the practitioner to target the main cause of your pain and movement restriction by specifically manipulating a part of the muscle that is not activating correctly. As a result, people from manual laborers to professional athletes who develop repetitive strain due to their work or activity will notice dramatic improvements in pain reduction and flexibility.
What is an ART treatment like?
Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of the muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. ART is unique in its systematic approach to within patient and tissue tolerance because the patient can control the active movement during treatment.
There are over 500 specific moves unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.
